ALL THINGS HAIR

This post is contributed by Kai Tan – Founder of One Drop.

I recently had a hair-falling episode. Not sure if it was food, stress or health. But not a like-able experience at all…cleaning bathroom floor of fraying strands and hair brush of broken bits of the crowning glory.

I decided I would test out the Rosemary and Sulfurzyme. I would drip 2-3 drops of rosemary on my scalp after shower and massage the oil in with my fingers. Then brush my hair through to help stimulate the essential oil absorption into the scalp. I took 2 capsules of Sulfurzyme , 3 times a day (1 hour before or after food). The result was pretty neat! Just about 1 week into this regimen, it was pretty evident that my hair condition was improving.

Inspired, I decided to put together a really handy HAIR Emergencies Essential Oils Remedy List here:

Falling Hair/ Stimulating Hair Growth:
  • Regime of Rosemary (2-3 drops topically onto scalp) and Sulfurzyme (2 caps, 3 times a day) as shared above
  • Add 25 drops ( 1/4 teaspoons) of Clary sage essential oil to 4 oz of sweet almond oil or sunflower oil or any other carrier oil to create a hair oil that can you will use for regular, stimulating scalp massages.
Greying Hair:
  • Take 60z of Ningxia Red and 2-3 Capsules of Sulfurzyme everyday.
Dandruff Invasion:
  • In a small 4 oz. spray bottle filled with distilled water, add 8 drops Lavender. Spritz onto scalp before bedtime and brush/comb in.
  • Dilute a drop of Tea Tree Oil (Young Living labels its Tea Tree oil by its Botanical name – Melaleuca Alternifolia) with v6 or almond oil. Massage into scalp. Tea Tree Oil not only help control dandruff but also manages bacteria and fungus, which could contribute to flaky, itchy scalp skin.
Lustre-Lacking Hair:
  • 1/2 cup or organic sunflower oil
5 drops of rosemary essential oil
10 drops of lavender essential oil
Mix all ingredients well. Warm slightly and apply the mixture to damp hair. Wrap hair in plastic wrap and apply a hot towel for 20 minutes before shampoo.
Oily Hair:
  • Clary sage is an essential oil commonly used to treat oily hair. Clary sage can be massaged directly on the scalp and into the hair. As an added bonus, it also promotes a sense of calm and well-being and may help you sleep if you use it close to bedtime. Clary sage promote estrogen balance and prevents thickening in the membrane tissue around the hair follicle that results in hair loss. Warning: Avoid using Clary Sage if you are pregnant.
  • People with oily hair can make a hair oil with 15 drops of tea tree and 7 drops each of orange and blue cypress essential oils in 4 ounces of jojoba oil. Shampoo hair with an astringent shampoo and towel dry. Apply about 2 tablespoons of the hair oil evenly throughout the hair. Wrap in a clean, dry towel and leave in hair for 20 minutes or overnight. In the morning, shampoo and condition only the ends of your hair—not the scalp.
Dry Hair:
  • Consider Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile), Lavender (Lavendula augustifolia) or Rose for dry or damaged hair as these essential oils won’t dry the hair out further. In a dark-colored glass container, combine about 3 to 4 oz. of a carrier oil, such as jojoba and add several drops of each. Use by applying sparingly to clean, dry hair that has not been coated with styling products. Comb through the hair evenly.
But remember! It is always important to also make sure you are also using natural and gentle Hair Shampoos and Conditioners. Chemicals found in commercial hair cleansing products strip the hair of its natural nutrients and strength. Nutritional supplement is also another key factor to consider to maintain healthy lustrous hair. Sulfurzyme®* would always be a key nutritional supplement I would recommend for almost any hair issue.

May all your hair issues be gone!

YL PRICE UPDATE

Young Living Singapore has just announced revision to the prices wef April 2017.

Below is a copy of the email that was sent out to everyone:

We would like to inform you that Young Living Singapore will revise its peg rate or exchange rate multiplier (ERM) effective 1st of April 2017 to bring it closer to current exchange rate trends. The revision of the peg rate will affect product pricing (from 1st of April 2017), distributor commissions (Commissions paid out in May 2017 based on April 2017 commissions) and all inter-company transactions.

You will see a slight increase of an average of 3% in our product pricing across the board beginning 1st of April, with no change in corresponding PV except for some items as indicated below*. We are happy to announce that the distributor commissions rate will have a higher increase than the product pricing rate, which will benefit all distributors earning commission. The peg rate will be adjusted to 1.37 beginning April 2017.

*While there will only be a slight price change in products across the board, there are a few products that will have a bigger price change, namely Feelings Kit Essential Oil Collection, Raindrop Technique Essential Oil Collection and Everyday Oils Essential Oil Collection. These changes are due to our efforts to ensure that you always have access to the highest quality essential oils. We are constantly looking for smart, sustainable, and uncompromising solutions to stock challenges such as oil scarcity and difficulty sourcing valuable oils. For these three products, PV will be increasing along with the price.

To understand this a little, we decided to explain a little the concept and rationale behind the price increase.

1. WHAT IS A PEG RATE?
This is an exchange rate that is annually calculated within the company.

2. HOW IS IT DERIVED?
Every year, the company will study the prevailing exchange rate trends for the past 6-12months, factor in cost of operations; to finally determine a new rate that is to be used the following year.

3. WHAT DOES IT IMPACT?
Peg rate is for converting USA prices to local prices and for converting USA commissions to local sums.

4. WHY DID WE HAVE A PRICE INCREASE IN PRICES 2 YEARS BACK IN SINGAPORE AND YET DID NOT SEE COMMS RATE INCREASE?
Price increment about 2 years ago was a result of an increment in raw materials. Hence the price adjustment was across ALL International markets. However, because that price increment is NOT due to peg rate change, commissions was not adjusted.

5. WHY DID SINGAPORE NOT HAVE A PEG RATE CHANGE LAST YEAR IF IT WAS AN ANNUAL EXERCISE?
The review for peg rate (last year) followed shortly after the price increment due to raw material cost. To exercise a peg rate change shortly after the 1st price increment would have resulted in a 2nd wave of prices increase. YLSG made a deliberate decision to maintain prices for the larger benefit of the user community. With that, the peg rate was therefore not adjusted in the last year. And therefore commissions continued to be paid out base on the old rate.As we understand the intricacies and multiple layers of impact of the peg rate and other external factors, we hope this gives you insights as to the dilemmas and tension points that need to be considered on various levels; in order for YL to make balanced decisions that keep in view all the needs of different groups.

Should you still have questions about the peg rate, please feel free to contact us or Young Living for more information.

SUPPORT YOUR RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

This post is contributed by Kaye Ng.

Probably one of the most common questions that many oil uses will have is – WHAT OILS SUPPORTS MY RESPIRATORY SYSTEM? When the tap won’t stop running, or even when it freezes over … what oil can you use?

Here are 5 oils that I have picked out that can support you.

R.C. is a respiratory blend of oils containing three types of Eucalyptus, Myrtle, Pine, Marjoram, Lavender, Cypress, and Peppermint. Diffusing R.C or applying it topically on your chest and throat, ears, or on the bottoms of feet can help you with your system.

Raven has a blend of five essential oils – Ravensara, Lemon, Wintergreen, Peppermint, and Eucalyptus Radiata) that can help the respiratory system. When paired with R.C., these two can powerfully support healthy lung function. Once again, you can apply it on the throat, neck, chest, or feet. You can also diffuse or inhale it directly.

Thieves is the most useful and versatile of oils. It was tested at Weber State University (1997) for its potent antimicrobial properties, and found to have a 99.96 percent kill rate against airborne bacteria, viruses, mold, and fungi. Thieves contains Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus radiata, and Rosemary. It was created based on research about four thieves in France who covered themselves with aromatics while robbing plague victims. It’s been university tested for its cleansing abilities and is highly effective in supporting the immune system and good health. Diffuse Thieves day or night to help purify and humidify the air. You can also apply to the bottom of the feet to help boost the immune system.

Eucalyptus Blue is another of my favorite oils. It is great to stimulate immunity, provide antioxidant protection and improve respiratory circulation. Originally referred to as “eucalyptol” by the scientific community, Eucalyptus blue has a high amount of cineole — an organic compound shown to hold astounding, widespread medicinal effects. There is tons of research to show how effective cineole is. Go do a quick google and be amazed and how this oil can help you. I love to apply this on the chest and at the bottom of the feet to support normal breathing function.

Dorado Azul is a lesser known respiratory support oil. It comes from Ecuador and it is in the mint family. It has a fresh and herbaceous aroma and again contains 1,8 cineol or eucalyptol which is known to support the respiratory system. Here is Gary’s blog where he talks a little more about the oil. Again this is an oil that I would apply to the chest or even on the nose bridge.

Enjoy and remember that the key to a successful oiling journey is consistency and frequency! 🙂

ALL ABOUT BLACK SPRUCE

This post is contributed by Kai Tan – Founder of One Drop.

Black Spruce (Botanica name : Picea mariana) is one of the important ingredients used to create one of Young Living’s most beloved and sought after blend – Valor.

While it is largely found in North America and widespread across Canada; finding a reliable unadulterated source is not as easy. It was one of the significant reasons Young Living went completely out-of-stock of Valor for a prolonged period.

You might ask – wouldn’t it have been easier to use just ANY supply of black spruce, stay on top of stock availability of one of the most popular blends and keep customers happy? I guess, that will never be the case for a company that has and will unwaveringly stand for the best quality. No compromises are permitted. Not even to keep the best selling oil in stock. Amazing, isn’t it?

And so, what did Young Living do to resolve a supply issue that the industry failed to provide an answer for? In July 2014, Young Living purchased a beautiful parcel of land in British Columbia, Canada for black spruce production! Not only did the property contain enough Black Spruce to supply our huge demand for this oil, but Young Living also started to build an essential oil distillery on site to distill Black spruce and Ledum. I remember being specifically told by Mary Young during November 2014, that Gary had worked so hard on the farm that he got out of the machinery at 10pm, slipped and broke his shinbones. And he still REFUSED to stop working. This spirit to fight for the best, to be a vessel to make available a most precious oil for the people – is a rare honor and integrity that is hugely missed in this world.

What is so precious about the Black Spruce, you asked?

This oil is distilled from the needles of the tree, which provide respiration for the whole tree.  It is no wonder Black Spruce essential oil allows us to breath well and open up the nasal passage. The Lakota Americans have used Black Spruce traditionally for skin and muscles, in addition to using them for their purifying and cleansing properties. Black Spruce also invigorates and stimulates the entire body, which supports circulation. Used historically in hot spring baths, saunas, and massage; Black Spruce supports the absolute well being of the respiratory system and immune system.

Where the trees are found in Canada, they are bathed in the energy of the aurora borealis – which is believed by many cultures to contain spiritual renewal and clarity. Black Spruce essential oil is thus well reputed to support the release of emotional and spiritual blockages. Like most woody oils, Black Spruce is grounding and stimulating at the same time. While it has a calming effect on a nervous, hyperactive individual, it can also conversely energize someone who is feeling lethargic and melancholic. As you use this oil, expect feelings of peace, balance, and a sense of being comfortable in one’s own skin.

Our black spruce is labeled as the Northern Lights Black Spruce. Go ahead and discover a magnificent physical and emotional wellness today with this pride we now have through Young Living.

BLUE CYPRESS

In 2014, Kai brought me along with her to the Asia Pacific Leader Retreat in Darwin, and we got to visit the Blue Cypress farm and distillery there. It was AWESOME. It was there that I learnt much for the powers of the Blue Cypress plant.

Blue Cypress is produced from the steam distillation of the wood of the tree, which is indigenous to Australia. Traditionally used to moisturize dry skin, (READ: GOOD FOR MY BAD BAD BAD SKIN) it also supports a healthy respiratory system. Traditionally it has been used to support the body’s natural response to irritation; as well as aiding normal breathing.

The Australian Aborigines burned the heart wood to repel mosquitoes and midges; and also used it to moisturize dry skin in the desert environment. When we visit the farm and we saw the tree being cut down, oil was literally oozing out from the bark.
It was AWESOME!

Btw, this is how the “farm” looks like. Its actually more like a forest.

2016_DarwinFarm_2276

I remember Bill (? Was his name Bill? anyway, he looks like a Bill, lets just call him Bill :D) I FOUND HIS NAME: COLLIN! Telling us about how the trees were all planted by the Australian govt to build houses at one point, after which they didn’t need the wood anymore and so they were starting to cut down the trees to clear the land. So now he is rushing against time to get to the trees before the govt clears them and distill the oil. (something like that lah.. my memory isn’t very good.. heh :P)
Anyway i found a really good article on blue cypress, if you are interested to read the eeecheee beeecheee bits abt the plant and its properties, this is the article for you.

So anyway, the oil is a magnificent azure blue color! LOVE LOVE LOVE This comes from guaiol and guaiazulene which are known to reduce the body’s response to irritation. It is the only wood that contains these components. Guaiazulene is claimed as an anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti- pyretic and anti-allergenic similar to chamazulene. Australian blue cypress oil also contains eudesmol’s known for their anti-viral properties hence its reputation amongst aroma therapists for the topical treatment of warts and cold sores.

So imagine when my skin flares up, this oil is PERFECT for it. Did you also know that it is the only naturally blue essential oil that comes from a tree. Other blue essential oils such as German Chamomile and Blue Tansy are from flowers. So distinctive and beloved is this tree’s aroma that it was chosen as the official fragrance of the Sydney 2000 Olympics. You have to smell it, it smells like a lovely woody forest!

Here are some other ways to use this great oil:

  • To support muscles. Blue Cypress is great to use post-workout as the plant has great analgesic properties.
  • To Moisturize skin. Blue Cypress has excellent beneficial properties for the skin. Use Blue Cypress alone or blend it with Sacred Frankincense, Lavender, and Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood essential oils and apply topically to hydrate the skin after time outside.
  • As a insect shoo-shoo. The bark has been used by aboriginals for centuries to drive off mosquitoes and midge. Apply to your skin to chase them away.
