SAVVY MINERALS

WHOOOPPPEEE!!! Convention this year launched SO MANY NEW PRODUCTS, I almost doubled up and died on the spot when they announced them all! And the hype and excitement came with a 100% natural and toxic free make up range called SAVVY MINERALS. 😍
Needless to say I went back to the hotel that night, slept at 3am and ordered all the colours I wanted without even trying them. I have THAT much faith in YL and trust me, I wasn’t disappointed at all.
So here is the low down on what SM is:
Savvy Minerals cosmetics are pigmented with naturally derived minerals that meet Young Living’s superior ingredient standards and provide gorgeous, concentrated colors. Our mineral powders are free from bismuth and talc, which are inexpensive, low- quality, and potentially skin- damaging fillers used by other mineral makeup brands. This line uses mineral-based powders that are made of a finely ground mica base, resulting in a smooth, flawless application. [and] Like all Young Living products, Savvy Minerals was created with quality, purity, and safety as the ultimate goal.
Many people like to ask, “oh, so whats the difference from other mineral make up out there in the market like Bare Minerals?”
Well, WE ARE BETTER! mmmhmmm 😊 I personally have not seen a make up brand that has SO little ingredients in the list EVER. Most products only have 3 ingredients inside. The main ingredients are (but obviously not all they use):
- Micas Minerals – These give it the colour.
- Populus tremuloides bark extract – Gives it a super silky and fine feeling and works as a preservative.
- Kaolin clay – This is GREAT to control oil so you dont need to worry abt clumping through the day.
So why is SM better? Because it is FREE FROM:
- Talc
- Bismuth
- Mineral Oils
- Parabens
- Gluten
- Nano Particles
- Phthalates
- Dyes
- Petrochemicals
- Synthetic Fragrance
- Synthetic Colorants
and honestly this is our difference. Of course many people think, oh its got less stuff so its probably lousier. 🙄 Geez, the sterotypes. But, lets be honest here, its not going to be the BEST make up in the world that can cover tattoos (can you imagine what goes in those makeups?) and but in my opinion its a very gd daily makeup to use.
The coverage is great and the versatility is awesome. You can add them to creams to make it into a liquid foundation, add water to get it into a liquid liner, or blend two colours together to get what you want. On top of that, its build-able so you can go for a natural look or something completely over the top if you like.
The only con in my opinion is this, (but its the same with all mineral makeup) IT’S MESSY! 😱 Mineral makeup is messier because of all the powder flying all around. GAH! It kills the OCD in me who like my things nice and new and neat. But that being said, would I forgo the mess to know that at least for TODAY, I’m going chemical free and not putting toxins on my face? HELL YES.
I always tell people, its a journey. HEY, even smokers use oils. It’s not that you have to be a health freak to start paying attention! Do I eat Macdos? 🍔 Yes i do, but have I reduced my intake? YUP! I sure have.
Do you know that most women put on 100s of toxins on our bodies before we even get to breakfast time? Seriously. From your toothpaste to your skincare… so to be able to reduce 30 chemicals from just using a natural makeup range AND still get you looking awesome for the rest of the day is a win win. 💪🏻
Ok, enough preaching. Here is the current first launch of the range.

THERE IS MORE COMING SOON! A little birdie told me that Mascara will be available in August and December will launch a Holiday set. AM I EXCITED OR WHAT?!?! 😍

SAVVY MINERALS TIPS AND TRICKS
This post is contributed by One Drop member – Kaye Ng
Ok, lets be honest, using mineral make up is not always the easiest. If it was the EASIEST, CHEAPEST and MOST CONVENIENT was of putting on makeup, all those other toxic versions out there would simply not be selling. But there are ways and tips to make your make up experience with the Savvy Minerals range a breeze – here’s sharing my 10 tips with you.
- Right Brushes – Brushes are important. Make sure they are not too huge for the cover size. If your brush is too big, you will end up making a huge mess as you try to dip, tap and swirl your mineral make up off. Also you may find that the pigments are then on a different area of the brush and will not help in proper coverage of your face. SO make sure the brush you use is not TOOO BIG!
- Dip, Tap and Swirl – If you don’t want to have sudden chunks of colour on your face, it is VERY important to remember these steps. First, DIP your brush gently into the powder. You will then get alot of powder/pigments stuck to your brush. DO NOT PUT IT ON YOUR FACE AT THIS POINT! You will get a huge colour block on your face and will look like you belong instead on the chinese opera stage. 😂 Secondly, SWIRL your brush on the side of your makeup cap to allow the pigments to be covered around the bristles. Lastly, TAP your brush at the edge of the cap. This ensures that the excess pigments fall off the brush.
- Layer It – The make up range is very very forgiving, HOWEVER, it doesn’t mean that its coverage is not good. So start with covering your entire face with a foundation evenly, and then slowly build up over areas that are more problematic. Such as if you wish to cover up redness or freckles. Remember that this is NOT a concealer. It is not going to cover it 100%, but it will instead give you a nice even colour and fade imperfections. So if you want to look nice and even colored, remember to cover your whole face first then build up over the problem areas.
- Circular Motions – To blend your makeup into your skin so you don’t look like you placed a horizontal swipe on your face or to ensure you look nice and natural, always remember to apply your make up in a circular motion. Esp for your foundation. This will help to blend your makeup into your skin nicely.
- Keep Blending – I can’t stop emphasizing this to people. When you look into the mirror and you think that your foundation, blusher or eyeshadow is already nicely blended togther, BLEND AGAIN. It is most important to do so! You want to look natural right?
- Match your Neck – Remember that your foundation colour should match your neck colour. So when you apply your foundation, remb to also blend down to your neck! If not you will have your face one colour and your neck another colour! 🙈 Just like below 👇🏻 AHHHH NO NO NO!
- Wetter and Darker – If you decide to put on the foundation with water or with a serum etc, expect the SM foundation to go up to 3 shades darker. It will become much more intense in colour. If you are someone who is also prone to oily skin, your foundation colour might also darken in time thanks to oxidization. So choose a shade lighter, or try the make up with a wet brush so you can see how the colour will appear on your skin. My own personal preference for my skin is that i always use the foundation dry. I prefer to blend it in and work it up, then to use a wet brush to get the foundation to stay, as it is harder to blend in a wet foundation, and the colour is immediately darker – which means it is also harder to build up coverage. Test the make up till you get a colour that you are comfortable with.
- Mix It – There are fewer colours now. That is true, though I have no doubt that the range will just grow exponentially. Some colours might be a little too orange for your liking, and others may be a little too pink. Or the Dark 1 foundation may be too dark and the Warm 3 may be too light. What do you do now? MIX THEM! I love the fact that they are all simply mineral pigments. So mix them up evenly and you can achieve the colour you want. My favourite mixing? – On a Whim Lip Stick with Abundant Lip Gloss. 💋 Perfect for me!
- Liquid Foundation – Convert the powdered foundation to a liquid foundation by just mixing the pigments together with your current Young Living moisturizers. I enjoy using a pump of moisturizer in my palm, mixed with some pigments and then applying that onto my face with a brush. Its easy to do and the coverage is “thicker”.
- Concealer – Need a concealer? If you are looking to cover bad eye bags or spots, choose a foundation colour that is perhaps one shade lighter that the one that you use. Mix it with a light serum or moisturizer and use it to cover blemishes. You can also use your existing foundation colour and build up more over the areas you want to cover, blending and buffing it in. After this, continue with you normal foundation and you should be all set!

MAKEUP & ITS’ TOXINS
This post is contributed by One Drop member – Kai Tan
Most girls love their make up too much to read into the ingredient list.
Whilst some love their full scale mascara-foundation-blusher-bronzer-eyeshadows shimmerbangbang, others just like their straight-forward minimalistic powder at least for work or dinners. Either way, knowing what is layered upon our skin every day or on those once-in-a-blue-moon occasions MAKES A DIFFERENCE.
Girlfriends do not let girlfriends run amok with harmful.
Period.
So here’s the spiel on some of the most common toxic substances found in make up and personal care products :
1. PARABEN (METHYL, PROPYL, ETHYL, BUTYL) :
Found in deodorants, lotions, lipsticks, shampoos, scrubs
– Parabens can mimic estrogen and act as potential hormone (endocrine) system disruptors in the body’s cells.
– Parabens have been found present in breast tumors and are possibly linked to breast cancer.

2. TALC:
Found in baby powder, body and shower products, lotions, feminine hygiene products, eye shadow, foundation, lipstick, deodorants and face masks
– Some talc may contain the known carcinogen asbestos that may be linked to cancer

4. LEAD:
– 99% of cosmetic contains lead
Lead in lipstick was presumed an urban legend until 2007, when the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics released the report A Poison Kiss, with the results from an independent laboratory that tested 33 popular brands of lipsticks for lead content. The findings – 61 percent of lipsticks contained lead including L’Oreal, Cover Girl and even a $24 tube of Dior Addict. This is a known carcinogen!
– Exposure to lead also has been linked to neurotoxicity, hormonal and fertility issues

5. BISMUTH:
Cosmetic companies use bismuth because it hides flaws, adds a radiant glow to the face and is a dirt-cheap filler! It also has binding qualities, so the make-up will “stick” to your skin and last all day.

– Causes itchiness when wearing products containing bismuth, most noticeably when person sweats. This can often lead to nasty rashes and severe acne.
Bioaccumulation is a real challenge for the modern woman.
It is defined as the accumulation of substances, such as pesticides, or other chemicals in an organism.
Bioaccumulation occurs when an organism (like us!) absorbs a substance at a rate faster than that at which the substance is lost by catabolism and excretion. Because of the wide-range exposure in our lives, not just from cosmetics but from food, medication, pollution etc – it is no longer just a matter of “it’s just a small amount”.
If switching out your full palette of cosmetics pinches the heart, why not just start with ONE item today.
The newly launched Savvy Minerals would be a good clean option to indulge in!

WHY I LOVE SAVVY MINERALS
This post is contributed by One Drop member – Kaye Ng.
Its been ages since I last wrote a blog post! GOSH! But with the new launch of the Savvy Mineral range coming to Singapore, I wanted to share thoughts and tips I have learnt from using SM on myself the last few months since I got my hands on them last year.
Ready? Here goes:
LETS GET THE BAD 💔 OUT OF THE WAY FIRST
Its a messy affair! Yup its MESSY ALRIGHT! You will find the powder and colours all over the sink and if you use the colours dry, you will find that you need more pigments and more layers to achieve the look you want. For me… that’s a major downer – the mess. BUT that being said I’ve found a way around my “problem” and you just need to get used to the “mess” if you are anal like me – FOILING.
FOILING
Foiling is a technique that gives the make up you put on a metallic shimmery look. I was never a fan of such shimmery looks. However there are benefits to foiling. Firstly, your make up becomes hyper pigmented. Means a little goes a long way. Secondly, you are applying the make up WET, so it doesnt fly everywhere! WHOOOPPPIE!
The first picture shows you the difference between using the make up dry and with water (foiling). You can see how the colours pop alot more with water added. You can also use the Savvy Minerals Spray too if you wish.
The second pic is for those of you who want a darker colour, but do not want so much powder flying everywhere and DO NOT WANT THE SHIMMER! BLEND! Once you blend with a blender brush, most of the shimmer will be gone, and you will be left with a nice dark tone. Lovely right? So this is how you can play with your make up to reduce the flying powder, either glam it up or tone it down!
Now lets talk abt what I do LOVE about this range of SM and how you could use the makeup for yourself
10 REASONS WHY I ❤ SAVVY MINERALS + TIPS
1. The foundation is awesome. It is light and it goes on without feeling heavy and making you look like some chinese opera singer. Best way to put it on – with the mineral spray den blend it it into your skin.
2. It doesn’t make your face oily and cakey and it covers all those hideous pores! In fact it absorbs the oils on your face! MAJOR LOVE because you wont be oily shiny by the end of the day! haha.
3. It last all day! Well at least on my skin it does. I have combination skin, and the makeup last from morning to night without me looking like my ghostly state at the end of the day.
4. The make up is buildable! You know how with other makeup, if you get too much blusher on your brush and brush it on to your skin, you might get a very pink patch on ur cheek that is hard to remove? Well, I’ve found that with the SM range, its very easy to build up colours and remove colours. If you have too much colour, just swipe it off lightly with a tissue and blend the rest in. If you didn’t get enough, just pick up a little more and add it. ITS SO EASY TO USE AND REALLY FORGIVING even if you are a make up noob.
5. Its super versatile! If you want your make up light, use them dry, if you want your make up to pop and go all glam glam, use it wet! ONE MAKE UP FOR NIGHT AND DAY! On top of that, you can use any of the products anywhere on your face. I personally use the darker foundation colours to do contouring.
6. Shimmer and shine – yup this range is shimmmerryy! I wasn’t a fan of this initially, but I’ve come to enjoy how the shimmer can brighten your skin and make you look just a tad more glamorous even if you are just headed out to the supermarket! hahah I’m frivalous this way! If you find that the makeup is too glitzy, just blend it in a little more and use it dry. This will help remove the glittery bits.
7. Moisturizing for your lips! I LOVE IT! I wore the lip gloss and lip stick together and was amazed how I could still feel it on my lips at the end of the day! Super long lasting and very moisturizing! I always use the lipstick followed by the lip gloss to give my lips an extra pop. I assure you, your lips will stay super moisturized with this combi.
8. The Multitasker is a must! This is one product that can be used as an eyeliner, eye shadow, eyebrow filler and to cover white hair. 4 products in one and it works gloriously! If you don’t like 4-in-1 products, you are not a woman! HEH. But honestly what’s not to love? You save money and use one prdt only!
9. Make your own colours. If you cant find a colour you like, or the foundation colours dont fit you exactly… MIX IT UP! I like to mix my eyeshadow and foundation colours. Try adding some diamond veil to your foundation too to give it a shimmery sheen like those korean dewy looks!
10. Keeping the best for last – SAFE! THIS MAKEUP IS SAFE. Safe for me and safe for my little one if I wanna swipe some blush on her while I get myself made up. Safe when I kiss her with my lipstick on. ❤
SO GO ALL OUT. Love the SM make up and try it once it hits our shores!
