Daddies may not always be the first to jump on the wagon of oiling. They carefully keep tabs at the side pondering with their analytical and protective aura the extent of oiling their spouses are indulging on themselves and even more so on their precious little ones. But hey, once they hear about the science; or for that matter experience first hand the efficacy of the potent drops of healing – they have often become the biggest advocates. So let’s celebrate Father’s Day… skip the power drills or geeky gadgets this time; but instead bless them with their own little power-packed bottles of manly goodness (…and of course many other ultra cool stuff they may have secretly longed for!)

Age Defying Radiance Set
The power-packed duo of Boswellia Wrinkle Cream and ART Renewal Serum are loaded with hydrating ingredients and skin rejuvenating essential oils. A teeny weeny dab of Boswellia Wrinkle Cream is all you need in our humid Singapore weather. In cold drying climate it serves as a potent hydrating protection for the skin. The 6 key ingredients that combats ageing and boosts renewal and hydration are Frankincense, Myrrh, Sandalwood, Sodium hyaluronate (Sodium hyaluronate is a powerful humectant that attracts and retains moisture up to 1,000 times its own weight), Grape seed extract and Aloe vera.
But you see, today’s drug discovery process is time consuming and tremendously expensive. It can take up to 20 years and cost millions of dollars to bring a single drug candidate to market. It costs about $1.8 billion to take a new compound to market and success is quite limited. Only one in 10,000 compounds ever reaches the market and of those, only one in three ever recaptures its development costs. With such high costs and risks of not obtaining approval, bio-pharmaceutical companies will resort to all forms of marketing channels to sell and market their products to doctors, nurses and pharmacists to recoup their development costs and to also reap in the profits. The truth is, we accept mainstream pharmaceutical drugs, as they are usually prescribed, advised and encouraged by our creditable health care providers – doctors, nurses and pharmacists. Drugs work because the results are fast, rapid and provide almost immediate therapeutic effects. Hence, in our own definition, we are “cured” and “fully recovered”. In our fast-paced society, this is desirable. We want results fast with minimal inputs and efforts. However, drugs work by masking/blocking/killing something, it’s not fixing the “REAL ROOT” of the disease or sickness. I call this “symptomatic” treatment; we are treating symptoms and not the real cause of the disease, mind you.
Can it recur again? Common sense tells me yes. When I was first introduced to essential oils in the beginning of 2013, I performed some research and due diligence on my own as I had to fuel my curiosity and seek answers. Right off the bat, I noticed that essential oils and pharmaceutical drugs are very synonymous – similar routes of administration/absorption and therapeutic effects. For every category of ailment or disease, there will always be essential oils that can potentially provide therapeutic effects for it. Lemongrass, Mountain Savory, Thyme, Oregano and Marjoram have been found to be highly effective against most common strains of bacteria. An investigational study supported by the National Institute of Health showed an aqueous extract of lemon balm – Young Living’s Melissa® had antiviral properties against viruses causing mumps and parainfluenza (1,2 and 3) (Kucera & Herrmann 1967). Besides treating infections, essential oils can be used for pain management. Pain is a warning system, by deadening it, the warning system is dulled. You pop a pill for headache, the pill does not make the cause of the headache go away, instead, it just allows you to carry on functioning.
Essential oils work on the sensory system and appear to enhance the parasympathetic response, which is closely linked with endorphins. The usage of essential oils with touch and smell, allows you to “get in touch” with feelings of relaxation and pleasure, and allow you to “let go” often for the first time. Essential oils that are excellent for treating chronic pain include Frankincense, Ginger, Juniper, Lemongrass, Lavender, Marjoram, Myrrh, Peppermint, Rose, Rosemary and Ylang ylang through topical application and inhalation. As you can see, the list of indications and treatment of diseases/ailments is not exhaustive and the list can only continue.
For common colds and influenza, there are no pharmaceutical drugs that can target and kill the viruses; the war to fight and wipe out such pathogens from your body is solely dependent on your immune system. Long term chronic use of analgesics (pain relief), especially Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) can only cause serious and adverse side effects such as internal bleeding of the stomach lining and gastric ulcers. In my journey of incorporating essential oils for my daily therapies, it’s my personal choice to replace my home’s mini-pharmacy with God’s pure gifts from nature. To err on the side of caution, my priority is to avoid recurring diseases and sickness and dealing with long-term adverse side effects.
Now the choice is yours, what will you choose?
The on-going tease I have always had with the ever-so-complimenting Young Living peeps is “How come your skin so nice?” (fashioned in the classic Singaporean english). Well, here are 3 things I have quite religiously done over the last 5-6 years (or more):
1. Drink water ~ I can’t say enough of this. Skip the fancy drinks at meals – drink water. Feeling a tad hungry during work – drink water. Walking the malls- drink water. First thing when you wake up – drink water. Last thing before you hit the bed – drink water. Water is not only the best toxin-purge substance, it hydrates all of you including your beautiful skin. Drink water.
2. ART Renewal Serum + Sandalwood/Frankincense/ The Gift ~ The Renewal Serum is an intricate blend of exotic orchids petals and essential oils (Coriander, Ylang Ylang, Bergamot (Furanocoumarin free- thus rendering it non-photosensitive), Jasmine, & Geranium) that helps protect and revitalize skin. The serum is fast-absorbing leaving a matt finish that often is really quite perfect for me to add on super light make up when I wish to. It quickly nourishes the face and I really can feel the cells clamouring for it each time a apply a dime size upon the skin. The choices of essential oil is entirely up to you. I tend to rotate amongst the 3 mentioned. Sandalwood has very mild astringent properties thus helping to tighten the skin. It also soothes the skin and helps scars and spots to heal much faster. And it tends to relieve dehydrated skin thus helpful as an anti-aging agent. Frankincense similarly supports dry skin and is said to have cellular renewal abilities. And The Gift is a blend made by Mary Young with Sacred Frankincense, Idaho Balsam Fir, Jasmine, Galbanum, Myrrh, Cistus and Spikenard. Most of this selection of oils are ancient oils that have been highly regarded for skin renewal and repair
3. ART Skin Care System ~ Now, Young Living does have a gentle skin care system that I would use. And yes, they have just officially made it better. Their blog shares how to use it. Let’s take a peep at what got better : In the ART Cleanser, Royal Hawaiian™ sandalwood is now used instead of traditional Indian Sandalwood (supply of which is dwindling). Green tea leaf extract, Ginkgo biloba leaf extract and Aloe vera leaf juice are also now added. Green tea extract is naturally rich in antioxidants, which has a cell-protecting function as well. It’s a strong antioxidant effect that protects the skin from the damaging effect of free radicals. Green tea extract also contains the Methylxanthines that stimulates skin microcirculation and therefore positively influence the tone and health of the skin. Ginkgo’s main promise in skin care is also its antioxidant compounds. Since much of skin aging is caused by free radical damage, ginkgo’s ability to protect against free radicals may help protect skin from signs of aging like wrinkles, sagging, and age spots. Extracts from ginkgo leaves have also shown anti-inflammatory properties, which could help reduce the occurrence of acne and other skin concerns like rosacea and eczema. Aloe vera leaf juice has also been studied to provide the benefits of moisturising, being anti-inflammatory and fighting against aging.
The ART Day activator and Night Reconstructor Moisturisers have been replaced with the ART Light Moisturiser. As with the cleanser, Royal Hawaiian™ sandalwood is now used instead. Some other new inclusion includes Theobroma grandiflorum (Cupuacu) seed butter, Quillaja saponaria wood extract, Leucojum aestivum bulb extract, Orchis mascula flower extract etc Cupuaçu seed butter (pronounced “coo-poo-wa-soo”),is translated to “food for the gods” and is abundant in the Amazon rainforest. This is the latest rage in skin care providing deep moisturising and leaves a creamier feel than regular cocoa butter. The Oleic acid content(omega 9 monounsaturated fatty acid) protects and moisturizes both skin and hair! Olea Europa (Olive) Fruit oil is a highly moisturising and skin sustaining oil that is rich in Vitamin E. The Quillaja saponaria wood extract is from the Chilean soapbark tree, a 15m evergreen that grows in the pristine foothills of the Andes. It has been studied to treats acne by reducing skin sebum. Leucojum Aestivum Bulb Extract is a plant extract obtained from the summer snowflake plant; and is highly regarded for its anti-ageing properties as it slows down cell division, helping skin to stay youthful and supple. Orchis mascula flower extract is the extract of the flowers of Blue Orchid. This has moisturizing , protective and restorative properties , is effective against free radicals, increases the immunity of the skin , reduces the appearance of wrinkles and is rich in minerals like calcium, iron , zinc , magnesium and copper. The new ART Toner now also includes Camellia sinensis (Green tea) leaf extract on top of all its other original natural goodness. ….and last but not the least, remember a good clean diet is always an all-rounder.
You are what you eat. So is your skin!
We are going blends crazy this August!
Many moons ago Sheena had sat down and made transcript for MANY of the blends way back in 2014. So here we are covering 5 of the many. Wait for it… we will have TEN full post covering the various blends!
BRAIN POWER
Oils Inside: Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Frankincense, Melissa, Australian Blue Cypress, Lavender & Helicrysum.
All these compounds are specific compounds in working on the brain. It increases vascular dilation. Cedarwood is the oil with the highest sesquiterpene activity that exists in Young Living’s oil chain (This was in 2004. as many of you know, Hong Kuai has taken over since 2013!)
This is another reason why Cedarwood is stimulating for hair growth for the men. When the hair follicle loses oxygen and dies and falls out, it is because of testosterone levels dropping. It is also oxygenating for the lymphatic system because it brings oxygen into the lymph fluid and into the blood. It is imperative to have good oxygen flow to have good memory recall and retention.
Melissa has the 2nd most highest sesquiterpene activity after Cedarwood. Sandalwood is 3rd, Frankincense is 4th.
Studies with Vienna University has shown that there is a 28% increase of oxygen in the pituitary gland. It decongests the lymphatic system and is calming to the nerves. One oil doesn’t dominate the action of one thing. It is multi faceted.
Lavender is calming, while Helicrysum opens up blood vessels to get greater oxygen saturation into the brain. You have to get the chemicals out of the brain. You can’t increase brain function if the brain is heavy laden with mercury or lead or arsenic or nickel. People who have brain fatigue are very very heavy laden in the brain with heavy metals and petrochemicals.
Brain Power stimulates the neurotransmitters in the brain for receptivity and memory recall and helps to purge the heavy metals out of the brain.
Try putting Brain Power and Clarity together – Gary uses them before he goes on stage to have the memory recall that he needs to share with people. He doesn’t do well with notes.
CHRISTMAS SPIRIT
Oils Inside: Orange, Cinnamon Bark & Spruce.
High in Limonene, high in antiviral, anti-carcinogen and immune stimulating. This is a great blend for your immune system.
Cinnamon – The ester in cinnamon is calming and the high phenol content is oxygenating. It is extremely supportive to the circulatory system. Eugenol is high in cinnamon, thus it will be burning to the body, do remember to dilute with v6. Cinamon is also anti bacterial. It is not an aphrodisiac, but will enhance sexual appetite if there is a deficiency. However, it will NOT make you a maniac. 🙂 Remember – oils are about BALANCING! So there is no overdose. Cinnamon also works as a great anticoagulant. *Cistus oil is a another great anticoagulant
Gary created Christmas Spirit because he wanted to create the spirit of happiness. Orange, cinnamon and spruce trees are all reminders of Christmas. We used to sit around and tell stories, play checkers, but it is not happening anymore. We are becoming synthetic, instant and technology is playing a huge disruptive role to our relationships.
Spruce is a very grounding oil. A powerful oil that is incredibly healing for the lungs. It also empowers respiratory exchange and deep breathing in the lungs.
CITRUS FRESH
Oils Inside: Orange, Tangerine, Grapefruit, Lemon & Spearmint.
90% in Limonene, which is high in antiviral and anti-carcinogen activity based on research of Wisconsin University.
Gary made this blend because people in the world today have disconnected themselves with the child in them. Citrus Fresh helps to reconnect to inner child.
Little children suck their thumbs because they have not developed the inner parts of their skull where it leads up to the pineal-pituatary gland. When a child puts their thumb in there, it stimulates the pineal-pituatary gland that allows more oxygen and for better mental clarity.
Put a drop of Citrus Fresh on your thumb and suck it! 😛 It taste pretty good too!
CLARITY
Oils Inside: Basil, Cardamon, Rosemary, Peppermint, Rosewood, Geranium, Palma Rosa , Ylang ylang, Bergamot, Roman Chamomile & Jasmine.
People have brain paralysis. We need to get the spasms out of the brain more than we need to get it out of the muscle.
Basil – Allows brain to relax. When we get stressed, your brain stresses and the endorphin starts charging and all of a sudden you can’t think. The adrenal glands are bursting and you become paralysed in the head.
Cardamon – Stimulates the regeneration of cell activity.
Peppermint and Rosemary stimulates the firing of the synapses, allowing you to develop more brain cells and capacity for memory.
Geranium, Lemon and Palma Rosa drives oxygen and increases sesquiterpene activity.
EXAM TIP! Use Brain Power and Clarity together when preparing for exams. An experiment was done in a school in Oklahoma. A class of Grade 2 and 3 were split in half. Half in one room and another half in the other room. Clarity was diffused in one and the other had none. There was a 28% higher score in the class that had Clarity being diffused. 😀
DI-GIZE
Oils Inside: Tarragon, Cumin, Ginger, Peppermint, Anise, Juniper, Fennel, Lemongrass & Patchouli
When you have an occasional upset stomach, the stomach goes into spasms. You gotta relax the stomach as the stomach cannot secrete enzymes when it goes into spasms. Constipation is a spasm.
Tarragon is high in methyl charvicol and is antispasmodic. It is also anti-allergenic, just like lavender and roman chamomile. SECRET TIP: ROMAN CHAMOMILE + LAVENDER 50:50 becomes an anti-histamine! GO TRY!
Cumin is antispasmodic and regulates natural blood flow. When your muscles go into spasms, the blood flow decreases.
Ginger breaks up hardened mucus and stimulates secretion of hardened enzymes.
Peppermint is good for reducing the fever in the stomach that is created when you have flu and feel like vomiting.
Anise Seed, Juniper and Fennel creates natural enzyme production.
Lemongrass is bacteria-unfriendly, which is great for your tummy.
Patchouli is like Pacman in the digestive system. It digests unfriendly bacteria. A lack of oxygen in the mucus membrane is one of the reasons why spasms occur. Loss of oxygen means loss of blood flow. Patchouli is great in bringing the oxygen to that area.
We are back! Here is PART TWO of the blends!
DRAGON TIME
Oils Inside: Clary Sage, Fennel, Lavender, Jasmine
During the medieval times, the term “dragon time” referred to that time of the month for women. All of the oils that work with hormones all have sesquiterpenes.
Clary Sage contains sclaerol which is the compound that creates a oestrogen/testosterone mimicking action. it is also antispasmodic and a neuro-tonic.
Fennel works as a natural hormone balancer.
Lavender is recognized by Warwick University as a powerful agent for treating PMS.
Jasmine works on the liver and helps to balance the testosterone level in women.
DREAMCATCHER
Dreamcatcher opens the brain, balances the hormones and allows you to dream. Wear it at night – it allows intuitiveness. It helps when you are seeking intuitive feelings. Dreamcatcher and Inspiration works synergistically in filtering out negative thoughts. It also also a good match with Awaken.
When we experience a trauma (it is acidic), it is important to alkalise the trauma in the transcriptase enzyme. Having oscillating emotions (laugh and then cry and then laugh and then feel sad again) helps to erase it. Pulling back and forth.
The cause of nightmares is acid. The more acidic you are, the more scary/angry nightmares you get. Drink Alkalime before you sleep! The more alkaline, the more peaceful your dreams are.
Sandalwood in Dreamcatcher works for the brain. It was only till 2004 that was documented that the oils repaired DNA even though Gary spoke about it in 1999 and professionals gave him skepticism. When you present new things and ideas, it scares people. Because they either have to do something about it or reject it, and most people choose to reject it. In 1989 Gary presented in Denver that essential oils could correct scoliosis and that scoliosis was a VIRUS, it is only documented much later after.
EN-R-GEE
(Pronounced “Energy”)
Oils Inside: Rosemary, Juniper, Nutmeg, Fir, Black Pepper, Lemongrass and Clove.
We are looking for an oil that can help go to the brain and the adrenal glands.
Can you use this oil and push your adrenals beyond its capacity? NO YOU CAN NOT. No oils are meant to push the body off its normal balance. Why? Essential oils only stay in the body for 20 minutes before they are exhausted, burnt up by the acids in the body. The more acidic you are, the quicker the essential oils will wear out. That’s why it is important to apply FREQUENTLY when we are sick.
The more acidic you are, the more reaction you will have with the oils. But it is NOT an allergic reaction! You are not allergic to the oils, you are allergic to the acids in your body. The oils are going into the body, hitting the acids and causing a spontaneous micro combustion that creates an outburst on the skin. It is a manifestation that you are an acidic person.
You gotta be responsible for cleaning up your body so that your body can work more efficiently!
(NOTE: This is only for YL oils. Not any other oils)
Rosemary and Black Pepper are great for adrenal and thyroid function and it raises energy levels.
Lemongrass is high in Limonene.
Juniper contains camphor which helps in soothing.
Nutmeg contains adrenal cortex stimulating activity and works directly on the adrenal glands.
When Mary Young was in labor, at the point of exhaustion, Gary rubbed En-R-Gee up her spine and she came back immediately.
ENVISION
Oils Inside: Sage, Spruce, Rose, Orange and Lavender.
Helps to open the brain and helps you to daydream. When you are depressed, upset, angry etc, your vision is gone. You can’t see what’s possible. Use it with Motivation.
Sage and spruce opens the heart chakra/energy centre because when that is closed down, you cannot have vision. You have to have the brain and the heart connected in order to have vision. It is also great for respiratory exchange of oxygen. You gotta breathe diaphragmatically, breathe into the gut, breathe into the brain, get the oxygen past that neocortex (logical) part of the brain to make that vision happen.
Rose brings you to a state of joy. Nobody is going to see good visions if they are angry. A sense of peace and balance helps to promote positive visions. Powerful in promoting the regeneration of new tissue, it takes 5000pounds of petals for just to make 1 pound of oil.
Orange is for the happiness! It makes you happy happy happy!
Lavender is for the balance.
EXODUS II
Oils Inside: Cinnamon, Cassia, Myrrh, Hyssop, Frankincense, Spikenard and Galbanum.
Exoduss II is a powerful oil for any type of foreign bacteria found in the body. You can apply on the spine just like raindrop. Try also placing one drop under the tongue or into the inside cheeks as a supplement to get it into the brain if you have brain fog.
This blend of oil was taken directly out of the book of Exodus, the formula that Moses gave to the Israelites.
Myrrh has anti-inflammatory action.
Hyssop helps support the respiratory system and the lungs.
Frankincense and Spikenard works as an immune modulator.
Galbanum is the oil of Moses. The oil that is known to protect against deities, which is what diseases were known to be.
