OILING TIPS FOR YOUR CHILD
This post is contributed by One Drop Business Manager– Kaye Ng
Mothers and new users of essential oils are always weary when it comes to oiling kids, but it actually isnt that difficult at all.
As long as you go by some basic safety rules, you can use any oil you want on your child. Essentially, the same oil you would use for an adult is also helpful for a child.
Lets go through a few SAFETY rules.
1. DILUTION: Always ensure that you dilute.
- Child below 2: Dilute 1 part EO to 1 part carrier oil
- Child between 2 to 4: Use one drop of EO
- Child above 4: Use 2 – 3 drops of EO
2. CHECK! Is the oil HOT?
Is it a hot oil? How do you know? Well, apply it on yourself. If it feels minty or hot on your skin, it means that it is going to be hot for your child too!
3. APPLY ON BOTTOM OF FEET.
As a general rule, apply all oils on the bottom of the feet. If you are working with a hot oil, it MUST go on the bottom on the feet. However, if you are working with their digestive system, you can always choose to apply the oil on their tummy, or perhaps even on the chest if you are dealing with respiratory support. HOWEVER, in doubt, just apply to the feet.
4. EMERGENCY! HELP!
Well, in all situations, kids or not, accidents happen. Oils can get onto the hands and get into the eyes. Oils can suddenly feel extremely hot on the skin and ur kid may start to cry. Don’t panic. Thankfully you are using oils! You are likely NOT to overdose on the oils. :)) In fact you probably will NOT unless u decide to drink 10 bottles of oils. All you need to remember when your child experiences discomfort when using the oils, NEVER USE WATER to wash the oil away. Oils and water does not mix. Washing away the oil with water actually pushes the oils further into the skin. Instead use a carrier oil to dilute and wipe away the excess oil after.
THATS ALL U NEED TO REMEMBER! Simple right? After you checklist and do the above safety, you can use any oil which is of relevance.
Here are some of my favorite oils to use to support the various body functions:
- NOSE: Breathe Again, R.C, Raven, Eucalyptus (all three), Peppermint
- CHEST: Idaho Blue Spruce, Dorado Azul, Balsam Fir, Raven, Cypress, Peace and Calming, Frankincense
- STOMACH: Digize, Aromaease, Ginger, Fennel
- SKIN: Lavender, Tea Tree, Purification
- IMMUNITY: Thieves, Immupower, Lemongrass + Eucalyptus, Exodus II
So now you know how and what to use, have no fear and start oiling happily!

FUN TIME FOR KIDS WITH YOUNG LIVING PRODUCTS
This post is contributed by One Drop member – Ranna Seah.
It’s finally a long term break in Singapore now. Yay!!! June holiday!!! One of the most favored time to bring your kids out for activities such as camping, water play or even travelling.
What I enjoyed most as an oiler mama is that we have readily available resources to make sure the kids are supported no matter where or what activities we chose!
So here it is! Some of the most common activities + how to support them the Young Living way:
- Indoor Playgrounds, Bouncy Castles and Ball pools
Ok…honestly…I don’t even want to know if they disinfect, clean or sterilise those balls, things, toys and etc in those places!!! I don’t even want to know if they let kids who are coughing and sneezing in or not! Worse when its all aircon with no ventilation! Not that I will let my kid into those places if she’s having a flu. Uh-uh no I wouldn’t. But that doesn’t mean other parents wouldn’t too. And sometimes, we also don’t know if they have the bug or not. So, what we can do is to always stay ready and alert, and keep our immune system running optimally.
What you can use:
Chewable SuperC and Ningxia Red for your 2 years old and above
Thieves OR ImmuPower on sole before & after entering the den
Raindrop once a week
2. Waterplay/Swimming
I don’t even want to know how much chlorines are used to keep those waterparks and pools clean. One whiff and I can tell for sure it’s a lot a lot.
So, what happens if we accumulated too much chlorines in our system?
You can check out http://gochemless.com/top-10-dangers-of-swimming-pool-chlorine/ for some of the summarized harms chlorine can cause.
The effects of the sun is also magnified when you are in water so you really should use a sunscreen.
What you can use:
Geranium OR Orange on rub palm or on sole to support the detox system. Carrot Seed is another great oil to consider too.
Geranium helps to warm up the body as well as remove the smell of chlorine.
DIY Sunscreen (please check DIY recipes towards the end of the blog)
3. Camping/Picnic
Ok…I have to admit that I am biased. This is the one activity I will agree wholeheartedly as Mr Shining Sun is nature’s best disinfectant~ But we do have to protect our skin somehow though. Also, there is a potential price to pay when one is having great fun and become careless. But we certainly can minimize mishaps by simply being prepared.
What you can use:
DIY First Aid Spray
DIY Insect Repellent Spray
DIY Sunscreen
(please check DIY recipes towards the end of the blog)
I will definitely bring along my bottle of Purification or Lemongrass just in case we meet some persistent mosquitoes. Reinforcement as well as great soother for itch too. Oh…and spraying the DIY Insect Repellent Spray around your picnic mat keeps the nosy ants out too. And they are safe to be around your food cos you DIY-ed them and you know how pure the ingredients you used are. J
4. Too Much Walking
After the excitements had died down, it’s like suddenly the little ones remembered that they had been jumping and hopping non-stop for 4-5 hours! They suddenly realize and started grumbling of aches and pains. They refused to move until you pick them up!
….so here’s What you can use:
OrthoEase (renaming to BodyEase)
Lemongrass + V6
Panaway + V6
Deep Relief
Cool Azul Gel
Apply topically over sore muscles for relief
Take Ningxia Red regularly helps too
5. Too Much Street Food
You are out, so you have to eat out. Or you go travelling and you can’t possibly cook. Sometimes the food outside is not that agreeable with our digestive system.
What you can use:
Ningxia Red to regulate bowel movements even when overseas
Mightyzyme
TummyGize or DiGize + V6
Ningxia Red to regulate bowel movements even when overseas
Mightyzyme
TummyGize or DiGize + V6
6. Creative Holiday Program
Or you’ve opted to sign up your child for a week’s worth of painting or creative writing program. It is believed that aromatherapy can be especially beneficial for the creative brain. Essential oils can increase creativity by sending stimulating messages to the brain that enhances relaxation and positivity. Leonardo Da Vinci is said to have used aromatics as a method of inducing inspiration, and his essential oil of choice was Neroli.
What you can use:
Valor or Vetiver (for grounding and more focused learning)
Highest Potential/Believe/Frankincense/Joy for creativity
MindWise Supplement if you can order from US
And here are the DIY Recipes mentioned above:
DIY First Aid Spray
- 5 drops Lavender
- 3 drops Tea Tree
- 2 drops Dorado Azul
- Mix the recipe above thoroughly in ½ teaspoon of salt. Add this to 8 oz of distilled water, shake vigorously and pour into a spray bottle. Spray minor cuts and wounds before applying bandage.
DIY Insect Repellent Spray - 6 drops Peppermint
- 6 drops Purification
- Drop the oils above into the spray bottle with ½ teaspoon of salt. Top up the spray bottle with distilled water, shake vigorously before use.
DIY Sunscreen - 4 oz V6 Vegetable Oil
- 30 drops Lavender
- 10 drops Carrot Seed
- Fill all the ingredients in an amber-colored bottle, shake well before applying on your skin to prevent skin from drying out. And doesn’t have to be reapplied every time you go in the water.
And that pretty much sums up the potential June Holiday programs you might have planned! Do feel free to drop me a note if I’ve left out anything~

I love the natural crisp and crunch even after it sits in my oat milk after awhile. Unlike a lot of cereals that turn soggy almost immediately. HAPPY PILI TREE FARM
This post is contributed by One Drop member – Ranna Seah.
During Convention this year, Young Living introduced our newest partner farm! Happy Pili Tree Farm in the Philippines. The announcement and farm was introduced by Laura Walker, Dr Michael Buch and Matthew French (each of them representing one pillar – Sourcing, Science and Standards) during general session. It was very exciting to see them on stage all together and they shared in depth details about the farm.
Belonging to the same family of plants as Frankincense and Myrrh, the Pili tree is known for its smooth and aromatic bark. But an even more precious commodity was found below the surface of the pili tree bark. The Pili tree releases resin from its barks and roots. Located in a bitter region, close to five volcanoes, this means the soil is extremely rich and fertile. The tropical climate with many typhoons during the rainy season actually helped the tree produce a higher volume of resins. However, over the last few decades, deforestation had become rampant and harvesters were damaging the trees without understanding that it is possible to keep the tree healthy and in production for generations to come.
Sadly, the trees were often cut down for the woods. The wood was used as firewood and the resins were used as fire starter. Many did not realize that they were burning a precious source of income from their own land!
Local farmers and harvesters were not receiving proper training and they were cut too deeply and scrape off large chunks of bark. Or they will overcut the trees, believing that this will produce the most resin. These practises left the trees open to infection and pest invasion.
A lady organic agriculture advocate Ms. Rosalina S. Tan, known as Lina, Rose or Mommy to most, is the Chair-Emeritus of OPTA (Organic Producers & Trade Association, Phil.) Rosalina with all her passion for organics trailblazed to uncover the secrets of the Pili tree. Rosalina was determined to find ways to help her fellow Filipinos and she began learning and teaching to the Filipinos about how to tap and harvest the Pili tree properly. Young Living recognises the efforts and importance of keeping distillation at the local level and offered them a grant to build their very first commercial scale distillery.
This move help to create new jobs, increases revenues and refined class interest, agricultural education and sustainability practises. Resident harvesters are paid for sustainable tapping. Which pays them better than illegally poaching the trees!
With their commitments and mission to place people at the center of their process and a value of caring for the trees, Young Living is proud to be a part of this amazing project with Rosalina and her team!
About Elemi:
Elemi (Canarium luzonicum) has a spicy, incense-like scent that is soft and somewhat balsamic. A member of the same botanical family as frankincense and myrrh, it has been used traditionally in Europe for the skin. Elemi is highly regarded for reducing the look of fine lines and wrinkles, skin support, and for soothing muscles after exercise.
Elemi essential oil is spicy and grounding and has been used in Europe for centuries in their facial and skin salves. Elemi is a cousin to myrrh and frankincense (Boswellia carterii) and is often referred to as “the poor man’s frankincense”. as it is a bit easier on the pocket. The Egyptians used Elemi for embalming. Today this essential oil is still a terrific choice for aging skin, fine lines and wrinkles as well as helping with skin tone improvement. The fragrant influence is supportive of meditation and grounding. Nice to apply after exercise to fatigued muscles.
The 3 Pillars – Sourcing, Science and Standards (Laura Walker, Dr Michael Buch and Matthew French) talking about the Happy Pili Tree Farm during Convention 2018:
Laura Walker video on The Happy Pili Tree Farm:
“Chosen as a partner farm because of its ethical and conscientious harvesting methods, the Happy Pili Tree Farm is Young Living’s main supplier of Elemi essential oil. With expertise on how to legally and sustainably source this precious plant and provide fair wages to workers, the farm protects natural resources and helps ensure long-term viability of high-quality Elemi essential oil. The farm has also vertically integrated the production process by building a distillery on site, keeping job opportunities and expertise within the community.”

10 SURPRISING WAYS TO USE YOUR EO & BOTTLE
This post is contributed by One Drop member – Kaye Ng.
Besides the normal uses of essential oils and their bottles, such as using digize for your tummy support, there are many other “cool” ways you can use your oils and the bottles too. Here is 10 other surprising ways that I use my oils and oil bottles for.
1. Turn them into an immediate reed diffuser by putting toothpicks into almost empty EO bottles.
2. Make flavored ice cubes for lemonade, water, or punch by adding a drop of essential oil to your ice tray. I love the citrus oils like lemon, lime, citrus fresh the BEST. If you want them prettier, add a mint leaf or a beautiful edible flower to each ice cube to make them pretty! You can also add fruits to give your drink an added yum factor.
3. Every drop of EO counts! When you are almost done with a skin-friendly essential oil, such as lavender, rose, helichrysum, or frankincense, add in your your toner of choice — such as witch hazel and you have your own toner right away!
4. Cotton balls! This is an essential oily tool to have. Stuff 2-3 cotton balls into an empty essential oil bottle and place the cap back on. Then let it sit overnight to soak up whatever oil is left. Remove the cotton the next day and right away you can put these cotton balls wherever you need such as in stinky shoes, in trash cans, in your car etc.
5. Make flavoured salt for cooking! Fill up your empty bottle of Vitality EO such as rosemary or lime with good quality edible salt like natural sea salt and pink himalayan salt and let it sit inside for more than 24 hrs. After that you are good to go! You know have salt for margaritas, fish, chicken, potatoes etc.
6. Such a simple idea, but use your bottles as mini flower vases!
6. Baking soda is your best friend. If you want to freshen up stinky places, buy a boy of baking soda. I normally buy a small box and drop in 5 – 10 drops of essential oils directly into the box and mix it up abit. To freshen up my refrigerator, I would then place the entire box INTO the fridge. It works wonders not absorb the smells and give my fridge a nice lemony (if i use lemon eo) scent after. Other times, I pour half a box of baking soda mixed with EO into the trash can or diaper pail before I put the bin liner on. Works wonders!
7. Disinfect your dish sponge! How many of you actually do this? Just because your dish sponge gets “washed” with soap doesnt mean that it doesnt harbour bacteria. In fact with all the water and food and oil particles, it can get rather nasty. Take your thieves oil or lemon oil and give a drop or two in a warm water basin and soak your sponge in there for a while. Helps kill everything!
8. Toilet air freshener? Drop a few drops of essential oil right into your brand new toilet rolls! Ta-dah right away you have a great smelling toilet!
9. Add your oils to your shampoos and body soaps. Well Young Living has the soap base where you can add your essential oils to, but you can also add them to your shampoos! Tea tree for example is a great one to add for a healthy scalp!
10. Drip oils everywhere. I know this sounds so simple, but some people dont realize that its really quite safe to drips oils everywhere so you can smell good stuff and freshen up areas wherever you go! These are some places that I love dripping my oils onto: Bed cover, Bathroom Mat, Car Mat, Dried Flowers and even directly on my clothes esp if they are dark coloured and made of a hardy material like denim.
What ways do you use your oils? Share them with us, we would love to know!
